But that is theoretically because in actual sense, it does not always come to that.
In fact, it won’t come to 50 ft by 100 ft… it is going to be smaller..
So, why is this yet this is a common unit of measurement used for many residential and commercial properties in Kenya?
Well, it is because surveyors have to provide for important amenities including roads…and that is during land sub division (that is when sub dividing the original land..may be it was an acre or something).

Is 50 by 100 a quarter acre?
Nope! It is not..
Indeed, it is far from a quarter of an acre..
You see, a 50 by 100 plot size once translated to meters because that is what surveyors in kenya do comes to 15 meters (width) by 30 meters (length)..
And how big is a quarter of an acre?
Well, a 1/4 of acre in Kenya should be 0.25 (1/4) multiplied by 43560 sq. feet…yeah, that’s how big an acre is (it is usually width x length, whichever the dimensions of the width and length, an acre should come to 43560 sq. feet)
So you would get 10890 sq. feet…
But what size is a 50×100 plot? It is 0.125 by 43560 sq. feet..you get 5445 sq feet. ….assuming a your piece is a perfect rectangle by the way.
What you need to keep in mind is that your eighth won’t even come to that..we normally have to get access roads from the plot (otherwise where will you be passing?)
So ordinarily, your land will be about 49.21 ft. by 98.42 ft. …the truth is it is normal to have measured in meters as 15 meters by 30 meters (so the size of 50 by 100 plot will be slightly less than 49.21 ft. by 98.42 ft)….
Just to be clear, a quarter should be 0.25x43560 sq. feet….that is 10890..clearly your 1/8 is not the same as a quarter acre in Kenya.
