How many 50 by 100 plots are in an acre?

So, how many 50 by 100 plots are in an acre?

Now, the standard way of converting land in Kenya (when surveying) is that one 50 by 100 size plot is equal to an 1/8th of an acre.

This means that you will have about eight 50 x 100 plots theoretically fitting within one full acre.

And that applies for many plots in both urban and rural settings..

But the truth is that you will always get 8 point something plots from one acre (I’m assuming you bought your acre for sub division purposes-or you’re intending to)

Why 8 point something?

Follow the calculations below..

Calculating how many 50 by 100 plots make an acre

What is 50 by 100 in acres: Understanding the Units measurements

  • Acre: An acre is a unit size of land area equalling to 43,560 sq. feet in Kenya.
  • 50×100 plot (what is 50 by 100 plot): Meanwhile, an eighth (50 by 100) is a rectangular plot measuring 50 feet x 100 feet theoretically (the exact measurements on the ground are 49.21 ft x 98.42 ft and sometimes 15 meters by 30 meters)

How many 50 by 100 are in an acre (what is 50 feet by 100 feet in acres)

So let us now proceed to calculate the actual area of a typical 50×100 Plot:

  • Area = Length X Width
  • Area = 49.21 ft x 98.42 ft
  • Area = 4,843.2482 square feet

Determining the Number of Plots in an Acre:

  • Number of plots (50 by 100’s)= Total area of acre divide by area of one 50 by 100 plot
  • Number of eighth plots = 43,560 sq. feet / 4,843.2482 square feet
  • Number of plots = 8.993964009525673

How many 50 by 100 are in one acre – Rounding Down:

Since you cannot have a fraction of a regular plot, we shall round down to the nearest whole number.

Subsequently, there are approximately 8 (eight) 50×100’s plots in a normal acre of land in Kenya.

However, it’s important you note that this is an idealized calculation.

In real-world situations (kwa ground, as they say), factors like:

  • Roadways: Space for in plots roads and other access paths must be allocated, during subdivision, leading to a reduction in the total area that is available for ‘sellable’ plots (50 by 100).
  • Infrastructure: In addition, other infrastructure, like drainage systems could also take up significant space.
  • Irregular shapes: Finally, if the original land is not perfectly square, the number of 50 by 100 plots that can fit is likely to come down.

Therefore, while the theoretical number is eight 50 by 100’s, the actual number of eighth plots that you can extract from an acre of land in Kenya might even be slightly less.

But mostly people do manage to get eight full ones….so do your maths and see how much profit you can make if your goal is to buy acres and sub divide them for profit (it’s one of the best ways of making money in real estate)
