It’s Time to Introduce AI in Kenyan Schools
Alongside daily changing global macroeconomic trends, Artificial Intelligence is all set to permanently reshape the career ladder, as we have known it for years, with most entry-level jobs expected to cease to exist.
Which means we need to get our young people ready for this emerging world of work early enough.
To me, that means we need to urgently introduce AI education into our school system.
AI in Kenya: Bring AI to our Schools
I repeat: it’s very urgent that we start teaching our children and youths AI skills.
From prompting, to practically using it different work situations as well as in daily lives, we must expose them to AI early.
Reason?
If our younger generation isn’t able to work competently with AI, then they are likely to find the jobs they expect do in the future replaced by those who can use AI (And I’m not selling fear as we like saying, it’s how the future workplace is shaping up to be like).
This is not merely an education milestone- it’s about narrowing income and skills gaps that have been there for generations.
Yes, it’s about keeping our population(youths) competitive in a new world where AI will transform careers and income (the economy is just about to undergo a seismic shift)..
You see, even other countries have realized that their younger population will stand no chance if they don’t introduce Artificial intelligence in their curriculum- I’m speaking about nations such as Brazil, Singapore, China, Finland, and South Korea (all these have made AI/Computer Science a mandatory unit for every student!)
It’s not just about creating future AI engineers…nope, it’s about having a pool of AI thinkers, informed users, creators, and more.
So the point is, Kenya and Africa risks falling way behind- and remaining there forever if we don’t devise ways of bringing in AI education to our Teens and Youths- and even the working population (AI is taking over conventional jobs at stupefying speed)!
Introduce AI in Kenyan Schools – Final words
In summary, the new age of artificial intelligence, we must get our future manpower (our Young People) AI ready…..otherwise, it’s going to get very chaotic!
Reminder: The WEF(World Economic Forum) estimates that 60% of existing jobs will change significantly(with many becoming extinct) by 2050 because of A.I.
Bottom-Line: We cannot afford to watch as AI turns the workplace upside down!
